Description

16580 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket is home to Belinda’s Place Emergency Shelter / Transitional Housing for Single Women. Belinda’s Place is a three storey, 2100 sq meter residential / institutional building with one elevator and related site development. The facility comprises of 28 shelter rooms, 8 transitional housing apartments, a community room and a host of amenities including a commercial kitchen, dining room, learning areas, lounges, and administrative offices.

The site is approximately 0.5 hectares and includes a new driveway and access, surface parking for 11 vehicles, and significant soft and hard landscaping features including an outdoor Peace Garden structure. The site also features an existing Quaker cemetery which required protection and foundation remnants of the original Quaker Meeting House was integrated with the new Peace Garden Design.

The building construction consists of hollow core slab floors, steel framing, poured concrete shear walls, rainscreen exterior walls and wood trusses with metal roofing. Exterior cladding include finished masonry block, fibre reinforced cement panels, curtainwall and aluminum panel cladding.
